They say time flies when you are having fun, it was also the year of change for me but with these changes came a lot of wonderful experiences and opportunities. In January this year I joined the COOL TO BE ME family, a team of like minded women who all share the same passion and every day I am thankful to be doing what I love and to be surrounded by such amazing people.
The year has been full of highlights and milestones. Working with the Grade 1’s at Tafelberg school has been the biggest one yet, these little people continue to blow me away. The honest conversations and light-bulb moments make me realise even more so that social and emotional literacy should be compulsory in our schooling system, after all these young people are going to be our future leaders one day, applying and learning these skills early on in life really makes all the difference.
Another highlight for me was being invited by Edgemead Primary to be one of their speakers during their mental health awareness week. The focus of my talk was on the importance of social emotional literacy and developing grit in our children.
That entire event was hugely successful for the parents in the community and everyone left the event feeling a lot more empowered. Edgemead Primary has taken mental health and social awareness within their school very seriously and have since enrolled 10 Educators on our social emotional literacy CPTD enrichment course. I look forward to seeing the wonderful results that will come from all their hard work and dedication as their grow their understanding of how better to assist their classes with the ups and downs of everyday life.
If 2018 is anything to go by then I can’t help but have this excited feeling in my belly for what is still to come.
