Building Blocks Story Summaries

Grade 1 – Feeling Happy & Safe

Feelings

“It’s okay to feel mad or sad or happy as can be, because all my feelings are a part of me.”

Sammy is a sensitive squirrel. One day she feels sad and runs away into the forest. Bru’me and Musa Monkey look everywhere for her and embark on a journey through the forest to learn an important lesson about feelings.

Sharing

“Everything begins to shine, when I decide to share what’s mine”

Bru’Me finds himself in the sad, dull and grey Wangle Shamangle Land where no one is allowed to share. Everything starts to change when he befriends a little girl and the whole Land is magically transformed through their courage.

Being kind

“When I am kind to others, we become sisters and brothers”

Bru’Me brings a magic pouch filled with Dazzle Dust to school. Through his enchanting tricks, everyone starts to share the joy of kindness. Soon the whole school wants to know what he is up to and where they too can get some Dazzle Dust.

My circle of love and support

“I feel strong, brave and safe as can be because there’s always a circle of love around me”

Bru’Me and his friends find themselves floating in a bubble to a magical land where they meet the Queen Luvalot. She takes them on a journey through Bubble-of-Luvalot Land where they learn all about love, support and beliefs.

Grade 2 – Being Confident and Responsible

Being Truthful

“I smile inside and shout ‘I am King’ when I am truthful about everything!”

Something happened when Thandi Tortoise told a lie. She felt an uncomfortable pulling and squeezing in her heart as a small puff of smoke escaped from her throat. When Musa Monkey told a lie Thandi saw the little puffs of smoke drifting out of his ears and mouth too! The puffs joined together to form a big black smoke cloud, which swallowed up Thandi and her friends and took them to King Jembo the giant’s castle. Here, the children learn how to choose right from wrong.

Being Confident

“This is me, look and see, it’s just the way I want to be!”

Bru’Me and his friends had a bad day and left school feeling sad and unsure of themselves. Grandfather Monkey understood how they felt and hauled a big, old book off the shelf. The children opened the book to a page full of old, tree leaves. Grandfather Monkey asked them to choose their favourite leaf and instructed them to rub their left pinkie finger across its veins. That’s when magic happened! Weeheeee … Join Bru’Me and his friends as they set off on an adventure to learn how to be confident.

Being Responsible

“A superhero I can be, when I choose responsibility!”

Bru’Me is fed-up. He is tired of all his responsibilities and so he imagines he is flying away in his toy spaceship to a place where he is free. Instead, Bru’Me’s spaceship takes him to Fed-up-ville, a dirty, angry place where nobody takes responsibility for anything. Bru’Me doesn’t like what he sees and feels in Fed-up-ville and decides he wants to learn to become responsible. His wish takes him to ‘Captain Able’s Zero to Hero School of Responsibility,’ where he learns how to be responsible … and fly like a superhero!

Bouncing Back

“When life around me seems to go wrong, I first learn the lesson and then move on!”

Bru’Me and his friends go on a river adventure. When they meet their river guide, Nandi, they realise that this is no ordinary river adventure. Equipped with canoes, paddles, life jackets, a map and a small red bouncy ball, the four friends are ready to start the race. Nandi instructs them to use THE BIG BOUNCE if they get into trouble on the river, “Just bounce the little red ball and see what happens!” The river throws many challenges at the children, but, with the help of THE BIG BOUNCE, they learn how to go with the flow and deal with mistakes, accidents and disappointment.

Grade 3 – Discovering My Inner World

My Miraculous Body

“My miraculous body and I both agree that WOW is how we choose to be!”

Mickle and Muckle, two alien scientists from the Planet Wowzer, use extraordinary methods to teach Bru’Me and his friends about the miraculous nature of their bodies, inside and out.

My Brilliant Brain

“I can discover and learnt things anew, thanks to my brain and what it can do.”

Bru’Me gets to see inside his brain and watch how it works.  He learns that if he can avoid information overload and emotional overload, important information will reach his thinking brain where the magic of neuroplasticity takes place.

My Wise Heart

“Ssshhh. Take time and listen to what’s inside.  Your heart will be your friend and guide.”

Bru’Me meets an unusual friend.  Together they figure out a confusing riddle and Bru’Me learns to ssshh-aahh-zzing – to be come quiet; to listen and, to follow his wise heart.

My Special Gift

Use the gifts that you have been given, to share and build the world we live in.”

Bru’Me and his friends with the Shelly Beach Sandcastle Competition.  Their celebrations are short-lived as they are mysteriously transported back in time to teach the Lord and Lady’s triplets to appreciate their differences and the special gifts they each have been given.
